BAPTISM SERVICE

Sunday, September 22nd

2pm

at Caerwent Village Hall

Why is it at the Village Hall?

We have held baptism services at the chapel and in a local stream before, but the reason we are holding the baptism service at the Village Hall is because we no longer have space for everyone at the chapel. On a typical Sunday we can have anywhere between 50-70 people which is means we will need a lot more space. At baptism services, those being baptised always invite friends and family to witness the event which means a bigger building is needed to accommodate everyone. The Village Hall seemed the most obvious place to be able to hold the service within the village.

Who can attend?

Anyone can attend the service. It’s open (as are all of our services) to the whole community. If you have never seen a baptism service before, you might be interested in seeing one for the first time. Please come and see what happens. Perhaps you’re curious about God and the Bible. Maybe you’ve heard about us and have wanted to attend church but haven’t had the opportunity to come. Do you believe in God and want to have a relationship with him? Well, a baptism service is a great place to begin that journey.

You don’t need to know those being baptised to be able to attend. They would love for you to come, whoever you are.

What will happen at the service?

We are expecting well over 100 people to be in attendance, many being visitors and new to church. The service will be led by Pastor Gwydion Emlyn and the music will be led by the band as we sing hymns and songs. Three women are being baptised (Gill, Ilona and Charlotte) and they will share their life stories with the congregation, telling us how they came to saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. After this, Pastor Gwydion will give a message explaining what baptism is and what it means to be a follower of Jesus. He will then baptise Gill, Ilona and Charlotte in a constructed baptismal pool by fully immersing them in water. After the service there will be lots of cakes and refreshments such as tea and coffee.

What should I wear?

You can wear whatever you want. Most people will be dressed casually in whatever they feel comfortable in.

Where should I park?

There are plenty of parking spaces at the Village Hall car park.

Do I have to be a Christian to attend?

Absolutely not! We welcome anyone and everyone—whether you believe in God or not.

Is this a christening service?

No it isn’t. It‘s very different and has a different purpose. The three women being baptised are adults, not babies or children. They are being baptised as a means of professing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ—a proclamation of their faith. All three women were either christened or baptised as babies but see that baptism as meaningless as. Christenings and infant baptisms cannot be found in the Bible. Come and hear their stories to learn more.
